Funeral | Videos Make it Special

funeralYou recently went to a funeral that featured a very professional and unique memorial video honoring the deceased. You would like to do the same for your loved one. However, you’re not sure where to begin. There were so many good memories. You are a bit overwhelmed about which to choose for their funeral. You don’t want the video to look thrown together.

Here are some tips and ideas for creating a memorial video that will help you:

  • Focus on a few aspects of their life. Were they a good parent? Did they serve in the military? Were they thrill-seekers and pursued passions like skydiving or white water rafting? If you choose photos or videos from just a few parts of their life – particularly the aspects they were most enthusiastic about, it’ll help narrow down your content.
  • Ask family members what they recall of your loved one. What were they most proud of or excited about? Did they learn an important lesson they talked about often when they were alive?
  • Existing video footage – especially with audio of their voice–will certainly bring back memories of the deceased to everyone present at the funeral.
  • Include scans of sentimental letters, cards and photos.
  • Artwork from grandkids or kids is a good idea to add, too.
  • If they had favorite quotes or poems, these can be used as text scrawls over or between imagery.
  • Have a designated family member do voice-over to provide narration. A few words said about when, where and what was happening in video (without audio) add value to the memories highlighted.
  • If your loved one was ever featured in the newspaper or a magazine because of an accomplishment or achievement, these are nice to present.
  • If you are featuring certain family members in this memorial video, be sensitive to giving equal screen time to each.
