Arizona Ranger, Master Sergeant Lawrence (Lonnie) Gordon Hurst passed away in Mesa, AZ Saturday, 18, 2020 at the age of 69.

Lonnie is predeceased by his father Edgar Hurst, mother Janet Hurst, and brother, Robert Hurst.

Lonnie is survived by his loving family, including wife Mary Hurst, step-son Scott Murray, daughter-in-law Suzanne Murray, grandchildren Nicole Murray, Alec Murray, Chase White, Cody White, and niece Lauren Frey.

Born in Corpus Christi, Texas on April 22, 1950, Lonnie enjoyed a childhood of adventure and scouting. He became a proud Eagle Scout at the age of 16. After attending Kings High School, Lonnie moved to Arizona to study Communications at ASU. Also earning a Masters in Business, as well as his Law Enforcement Certification, Lonnie carved an exciting career path, mixing his love of communications and law enforcement. He enjoyed his service as a Sheriff’s deputy in Maricopa County in his younger years, and also his successful career with Intel, which brought him to San Jose, CA, as the Corporate Anti-Counterfeit Fraud Program Manager and Leadership Coach. He continued mentoring as a life coach and friend when he and Micki returned to Arizona to settle in Queen Creek in 2013. His mentoring blessed others’ lives in countless ways.

Lonnie lived to serve. Whether it was sharing his vast woodworking knowledge while helping the neighborhood children build Pinewood derby cars, volunteering with the Arizona Rangers, or by encouraging fellow artists of the San Tan Artist’s Guild, Lonnie’s giving nature, stellar work ethic, and big heart shone through. He always put others first.

Lonnie was a man with born creativity, artistic and intellectual talent, seemingly endless energy, and a desire to lift everyone around him. His light will be greatly missed by his wife Micki, whom he adored beyond measure, his family, his fellow Rangers, his artisans’ guild, his dear friends, neighbors, and community. His legacy is love.

A Celebration of Life for Lonnie Hurst will be held Thursday, January 30th, 6pm-8-pm at the San Tan Mountain View Funeral Home located at 21809 S Ellsworth Rd, Queen Creek, AZ 85142. All are welcome.
