Herbert R. Olson, 77, of Gilbert, Arizona, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 3, 2021, at home with his wife and children by his side
Herb was born to Roy and Marjorie (Manier) Olson on February 17, 1943, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He grew up in Neillsville, WI, and graduated from their high school in 1961, after which he studied at WSU-River Falls. In 1964, he entered the Air Force and completed the Dental Laboratory Course. After 5+ years of service, he spent most of his life in Duluth, MN, and met and married Sue on April 25, 1975. The couple lived and worked in Duluth at a dental lab which Herb owned and eventually became known as Olson Dental Ceramics. While in Duluth, Herb participated and served as officer of many organizations such as the Elks Lodge, HOG Motorcycle Group, and Duluth Amateur Hockey Assoc. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding motorcycle, and traveling. The couple retired and moved to Gilbert, Arizona, in 2007. While in Arizona, his passion was gold prospecting. In Duluth, Arizona, and everywhere he went, he shared his sense of humor with so many.
Herb is survived by his wife, Sue Olson; two children, Kimberly Schmidt (Steve) of Harrisburg, SD, and Tyler (Amity) Olson of Duluth, MN. He is also survived by one sister, Sandi Olson of Eau Claire, WI; and his brother, David (Pam) Olson of Prairie Du Chief, WI; five grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy (Marjorie) Olson; his daughter, Debra Saburn; his son, Alistair Olson; and his brother, Roy Olson, Jr.
