Marion Kay Hamblin passed away on December 8, 2020.
He was born September 28, 1938 in Springerville, AZ to Marion and Burma Hamblin. Kay was the first of 6 children in the family.
He was gifted, talented and bright, and to his mother and others, he was the “Golden Child”. Kay worked hard to develop his talents and became a gifted pianist. Kay excelled academically as well and graduated valedictorian at Round Valley High School.
After high school Kay was called to serve a full-time church mission to Brazil. During his 3 years in Brazil, he fell in love with the country and the people and served in a way that blessed the lives of many.
Following his missionary service, Kay married his high school sweetheart, Doris Elaine Wygal. Through the years they proved to be the ultimate power couple as they created a very large family and a very full and productive life.
Kay studied accounting at BYU and ASU and was always proficient in mathematics and “numbers”. This served him well as he had a variety of business pursuits throughout his life that required this expertise. Kay was self employed for the great majority of his life, and his business interests were so diverse that most of his children never quite knew how to answer the question, “Where does your dad work?”
Kay and Elaine had 10 children: Brent (Heidi), Julie, Lori (Nelson), Steven (Shawna), Lance (Sharee), Troy (Leigh), Dustin (Sally), Jill (Jeremy), Leisel (Christian), and Travis. They also have 43 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Family was everything to them, and they built a life that was balanced with hard work and lots of fun.
Kay served faithfully throughout his life in his extensive church service. This service included a variety of callings and assignments including Bishop, Mission President, and Patriarch. His lifelong service however, as a home teacher, minister and friend were perhaps where his greatest strengths were manifest. He was always consistently serving and helping those who were in need.
Funeral Services for Kay Hamblin will be held on December 19, 2020 at 10:00 am at 21915 E Cloud Rd. Queen Creek, Arizona
We thoroughly enjoyed the services on Saturday. So many memories were brought back about our choice relationship with Kay, Elaine and the kids. We were so sorry to have had to miss the funeral due to the COVID situation. but the stories and the music will be an inspiration to us for a long time. How I cherished my relationship with Kay for many, many years. So many callings were made enjoyable because I had Kay to be my companion. I only hope to not pass so soon after such a giant of a man was eulogized in the way he was on Saturday. I don’t think I will ever measure up to that stature. We are blessed to have had the privilege of calling Kay and Elaine our friends.
