Gladys Margaret Sammy, affectionately known as Margaret, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2024. Born on June 29, 1935, in Surrey, UK, to Jack and Hilda Block, she was one of ten siblings who cherished her childhood memories and held a deep admiration for her mother, Hilda.

Margaret is survived by her devoted son, Matthew, the center of her universe; her caring daughter-in-law, Janelle; and her adored grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Margaret, a lifelong Jehovah’s Witness, found her faith to be a guiding light throughout her life. While engaging in door-to-door evangelism, she met her former husband, Peter, on a snowy January day in 1959, with 15 inches of snow blanketing the ground in England. Knocking on Peter’s door sparked the beginning of their friendship; soon, love blossomed, and they married in 1964. Together, they welcomed their son, Matthew, in 1969. After marrying, Margaret devoted herself to being a loving wife and mother, leaving her position at British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) to nurture her family and focus on her faith. In 1974, the family relocated to New Zealand, where she remained until 2023, when she moved to the United States to be closer to Matthew and his wife, Janelle.

Margaret was known for her selflessness, always putting others first and often saying she didn’t want to “put anyone out.” With fierce independence, she approached life with quiet strength and resilience. Music played a significant role in her life, and one of her favorite songs was a heartfelt expression of her faith, resonating deeply during her meetings. She always sang the lyrics loud and proud:

“Life in this world can be hard.
Life in this world can bring tears and pain.
Still every day I will say,
“My life is not in vain.”

(Chorus)
For God is not unrighteous,
And he remembers the love I’ve shown.
So he is ever near me;
With Jehovah, I’m not alone.
Yes, God is my provider
and my protector down to the end.
Yes, Jehovah is my Father,
My God and Friend.”

Margaret embraced dance and often reminisced about her youthful dreams of becoming a dancer, sharing stories filled with joy. She led an active lifestyle, enjoying swimming and running, which kept her vibrant well into her later years.

Her infectious laughter, sharp wit, and boundless kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Margaret leaves behind a legacy of joy, resilience, and unwavering faith that will continue to resonate in the hearts of those she touched.
