Marlene “Marty” Rose Stephens/Sonnenberg was born in Chicago, Illinois, on December 17, 1951. She grew up in Dundee, Illinois, where she later married and had two amazing sons, Shawn and Todd.
After moving to Arizona, she started her career at Salt River Project (SP) and worked there for 36 years. While at SRP, she served on several committees and received numerous awards for her service.
While working at SRP, Marty purchased a 2.5 acre lot in San Tan Valley where she made a home and her dream come true by acquiring horses and brought Angel Acres to life. She ran a nonprofit organization to help kids of all ages with various challenges and disadvantages. This program lived for 20 years.
Marty was adventurous, loved to travel, camp, fish, listen to music, attend concerts…but her true passion was helping people and horses!
Marty, in her life, survived several cancers, always cared for many, and always put others first. Her strengths, spirit, and positive outlook on life will always be remembered! And live on!
