Carol Burdick passed away on March 10th in Scottsdale, Arizona, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 21st, Carol grew up in Ohio attending Bexley High School and Ohio State University majoring in Child Development.

A comfort to many and a joy to all, most of her time was spent taking care of her family, her friends, and her community. She was an officer and board member of many organizations including American Cancer Society, Maui County Police Commission, Hawaii State Board of Tax Review, President of Hospice Maui, and Vi of Grayhawk Residents Foundation.

Later in life, Carol spent over 30 wonderful years in Maui spreading love and wisdom to anyone lucky enough to call her Ohana. She enjoyed tennis and deep-sea fishing tournaments as well as being an active member of Keawala’i Congregational Church.

Carol was talented and adventurous in many aspects of her life. She was a master of watercolor, tai chi, beading, and traveling. Of her many adventures, she loved the wild animals of Africa and beautiful history of Italy. All her many accomplishments never surpassed her love for her family. There wasn’t a day that went by where Carol didn’t talk about how much her children and family meant to her; her family was arguably her most important achievement in life.

Son, Christopher Bumgarner, daughter-in-law, Theresa, living in Colorado Springs, CO.  Daughter Lisa, son-in-law, Brad Sherburne living in Chandler, AZ. Granddaughter, Lindsay Miller, living in Tempe, AZ, grandson, Kellen & Dara Sherburne, great grandchildren, Reid & Raelyn Sherburne, granddaughter, Amanda Sherburne, Des Moines, IA.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Leroy Foresman and Glenna Marie Miller, husband, Samuel Bumgarner, father of her children, husband, Robert Turner, husband, Laurence Burdick, & husband, Edward Wulfekuehler.

A loving and wonderful woman until the very end, she will be greatly missed. The family plans a private memorial on Maui at a later date.

Our family requests donations be made to Vi Residents’ Foundation Scholarship Fund, 7501 E Thompson Peak Pkwy Scottsdale, AZ 85255, or Premier Hospice 3550 N Central Ave #1200, Phoenix, AZ 85012.

So very sorry for the loss of your mother, Chris and Lisa! Losing a parent isn’t easy but we must rely on all the fond memories. Hugs to both of you!❤️🙏

I found an old email Carol wrote to me and my heart was touched today by her words. I went online to find her only to find out she had passed away. Carol was dear to me and she treated my father like gold and helped our family as my dad and his close friend Ed passed too. Carol was so full of life and I was always amazed she took so much time for our family. She made me laugh when it would seem totally inappropriate. We stayed with her in Maui a couple of times and she was instrumental in getting us back to the mainland with her attitude and spirit. Thank you and condolences to Carol’s family. I heard a lot about her children, maybe a daughter in Colorado(?) and especially about a granddaughter she adored. With love and Aloha, Vicki (Sandberg) Ayala
