Edwin John Schmidt, age 81, of San Tan Valley, Arizona, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Born December 15, 1944, at McNeal Memorial Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois, he was the beloved son of the late Edwin Albert Schmidt and Bernadine Isabella Wolinski-Schmidt.
He has three cherished siblings he leaves behind, Gloria Marie Hawks, Jimmy Paul Schmidt, and Nancy Louise Brown (Mike Brown); He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, Edwin served his country in Vietnam from 1965 to 1967. After returning home, he built a life rooted in hard work, family, and dedication. In 1978, he founded his own business, which continues to thrive today under the stewardship of his family.
Edwin was married and a devoted husband to his wife for over 50 years Mary Ann Alvarez-Schmidt. Together they raised four children who were the center of his world.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann; his children Aaron Schmidt (wife Maria), Craig Schmidt (wife Norma), Christina Schmidt (husband Jonathan), and Philip Schmidt (wife Jenna); and his cherished grandchildren Brisa, Liviya, and Maxwell. Known for being a hard worker his strong work ethic and commitment to family, Edwin’s legacy lives on through the business he built and the values he instilled in his children and grandchildren. He retired at 67. He loved to entertain and be surrounded by family and friends, he loved to travel, had a love for fishing and being in nature, grilling was a pastime he enjoyed on many weekends. He will be missed and remembered as a proud veteran, a dedicated entrepreneur, and a loving patriarch who always put family first.
The Memorial service will be held on July 30th, 2026, at San Tan Mountain View Funeral Home located at 21809 S Ellsworth Road, Queen Creek, AZ from Noon until 3pm. A reception will be held afterwards at Baci Italian Bistro located at 8830 E Germann Road, Mesa, AZ. On July 31st, 2026, at 10:30am sharp, Ed will be laid to rest at the National Memorial Cemetery, a Veterans Cemetery, located at 2929 E Pinnacle Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024. The cemetery only allows 30 minutes, so start and end times are monitored closely.

My memories of my uncle Ed were all good memories. I was always so excited when I knew that I was going to the schmidts house. Spending time with my cousins going in the pool etc. Uncle Ed was a car enthusiast I always remember corvettes in the garage. Also seeing him drinking his coffee and smoking his cigs. But most of all I know he was a loving father and husband!! And a workaholic for sure. He will be greatly missed. Love you all miss you all.
