Gilbert Edwin Smith, 78, passed away on December 12, 2025, in Mesa, Arizona. He was born December 21, 1946, in Bakersfield, California.

Gil was a Vietnam veteran who served at age 17, later becoming a nationally recognized leader and innovator in vocational rehabilitation, medical case management, and injury prevention. After overcoming significant early-life challenges and alcoholism, Gil devoted his life to recovery, mentorship, and service to others. He founded and led multiple successful national companies, including IMARC and later GSC On-Site Services, which he launched at age 71.

Gil was a devoted member of Alcoholics Anonymous for decades, sponsoring many and building lifelong friendships. He was an avid Harley-Davidson rider for over 50 years and found his greatest fulfillment in meaningful work, recovery, and family.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kris; his children Doug, Greg, Eric, and Allison; his grandchildren Ethan, Hannah, Trinity, Noah, Peytyn, Josh, Jensen and Harper; and many loved ones whose lives he profoundly impacted.

Gil will be remembered for his resilience, brilliance, generosity, and unwavering commitment to second chances.

Services will be held Friday December 26th at 1:30pm at Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery – 7900 E. Main Street, Mesa, AZ 85207.
