He had been battling heart disease and colon cancer. Gregg was born January 22, 1951 in Elizabeth, NJ. His parents are Norman and Marie Decker. Norman Sr. passed away in 2004 at the age of 82. Marie Decker still resides in Brick, NJ. Gregg has an older brother Norman Jr, who lives in Colonia, NJ with his wife, Sue. They have 3 children, Jeffrey, Danny and Dina. Gregg also has a younger brother Tom, who lives in Brick, NJ, with his wife, Jackie. They have 2 children, Josephine and Thomas Jr. He also had a sister, the late Cindy Decker.
Gregg was a Vietnam era Air Force Veteran and graduated from Kean College in Union, NJ with an accounting degree. After moving to CA to get married, he worked at National University and went on to get his Master’s degree in e-commerce, which at the time was one of the first degree programs of its type. He was way ahead of his time in the internet world. Gregg had spent many years using ham radio which he was passionate about! That passion converted to the Internet. One of the most amazing talents Gregg possessed was his beautiful singing voice. He sang in a band called Take 5 in New Jersey for many years as bass guitarist and lead singer. Two of his signature songs were “New York, New York” and “Chances Are”.
Gregg moved to CA in 1984, joining Marsa Budenbender and her 15 year old son Chris Budenbender. Marsa and Gregg were married on January 28, 1984 They were later married for time and eternity in the Oakland Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1989 and were sealed to Chris (19) , Michael (4) and Jonathan (2). Jessica came along shortly after the sealing. Chris resides in Fair Oaks, CA with his wife, Zara and their children, Jozi, Jada and Jace. Michael and Jonathan both reside in Queen Creek, AZ. Jon and his wife Hayden have two children, Blayke and Dawson. Jessica and her husband Matt currently reside in Warwick, RI with their 2 girls, Olivia and Lucy! One of his greatest joys in life was knowing what great people Chris, Michael Jonathan and Jessica have become and the wonderful families they are raising. He was very proud of all of them.
Gregg’s singing was the inspiration for the DJ/Entertainment business he and his wife Marsa started in 1990, DJ Crooner & Associates. Gregg provided DJ/Entertainment for weddings and parties for 20 years before retiring. Marsa continued the DJ Entertainment business and it is continuing to provide DJ/Entertainment services today! Gregg had a gentle nature and although an amazing performer, like many entertainers, he had a shy personality in his everyday life. He was friendly and kind to all who knew him. He moved to AZ four years ago to be near family. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
There will be a family service at Gregg’s request. There will be a Military Service which does not have a confirmed schedule and Gregg will have a final resting place at the National Veteran’s Cemetery in Phoenix. AZ.
