Jack Lee Mead (February 18, 1947) passed away on Friday, June 13, 2014. Born in Wagner, SD, and raised in “East L.A.” (Lake Andes, SD), he lived in a variety of places, but made Arizona his home in 1972. In Arizona, he met the love of his life, Dalia, and raised three daughters, whom he was very proud of. He was a “Jack of all trades”; he worked as a painter, a butcher, hay bailer, and was a drummer with the Sons of Chaplin- all before he graduated with a degree in psychology from the University of South Dakota. After college, he worked as: a loader with FedEx, a social worker with child protective services in South Dakota, as a juvenile probation officer, and retired as an adult probation officer with Maricopa County. In retirement, Jack worked as a handyman, taught himself to tile, and taught himself to weld. Jack was also a volunteer with the Navajo County Sheriff’s Posse and rode with the Hashknife Pony Express. Jack was an avid fisherman and hunter, camper, and became knowledgeable of the many different sports he coached (or assisted coaching) for his daughters. Jack enjoyed the various lakes in AZ, but especially enjoyed Roosevelt Lake. Jack also enjoyed working on his hobbies, around his house, and spending time with his wife and “babies”. Jack commonly ended the day with Marshal Dillon and a cup of chicory (with a little honey whiskey). Jack was preceded in death by his parents (Samuel F. and Leona Mead). He leaves behind his wife of 37 years (Dalia), daughters (Raquel (Shawn Gloden), Sonia (Matt Martindale), and Jacquelin), as well as the rest of his babies (John, Hunter, Elizabeth, Eva, Victory, Cody, Cade, and Austin), his beloved dog Sam and cat Runt. Jack also leaves behind his brother Richard Mead (Inge), nephew Mark Mead, and niece Michelle (John Drager). He also leaves behind his nephew, Joshua Harvey (Melissa). He will be deeply missed by his family in South Dakota and Colorado, as well his friends he chose to be family. Just as Marshal Dillon said, and Jack agreed: It is not the date of birth or the date of death, but what you do in between that creates your legacy. Jack left a fine legacy, to be remembered and cherished. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 20, 2014, at San Tan Mountain View Funeral Home, located at 21809 S. Ellsworth Rd, Queen Creek, AZ 85142. Memorial Visitation is scheduled from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, with the Memorial Service beginning at 2:00pm.
