James R. Fuller

James R. Fuller, lovingly known as “Big Jim”, passed away August 1, 2025. Born in Green Bay WI, to Rupert and Helen Fuller on July 13, 1946, he is survived by his loving wife Carla; beloved son, James (Laura); beloved daughter, Carolynn; beloved sister, Dori Poppell, Georgia, step children, Douglas (Cherie) and Jennie; granddaughter, Amber; great-grandsons, Chase and Ryan; step grandchildren, Jacob, Trace, Karsten, Ryan, Layne and Garyn, Samantha and Jonathon; and step great-grandson, Odin.

Jim grew up in Green Bay and attended Preble High School, earning many choral and trumpet awards statewide. He attended University of Wisconsin Steven’s Point on a music scholarship. After college he enlisted in the Air Force, climbing the ladder to Staff Sergeant. He was
active in the Air Force Drum and Bugle Corp, as well as the Air Force Band. During his service he was an aircraft radio flightline mechanic. He was promoted to Instructor at Keesler Air Base, MS.

After honorable discharge, Jim moved to Alabama where he started his career with the railroad. He worked for Seaboard Rail System, L&N, AND CSX Railroad advancing to railroad engineer and Train Master. Jim retired early from CSX, returning to Green Bay to raise his son.
He returned to school at NWTC and graduated with a degree in Electromechanical Engineering. Jim then embarked on his career as a security alarm technician and programmer for residential and commercial clients with United Security Company and Martin Security.

Jim spent his life discovering the joys of hiking, camping and hunting the North Wisconsin woods (up north as they say). Deer Camp in November was the highlight of hunting with generations of Fullers.

Jim could fix any thing that needed fixing, cars to electrical issues or just a broken toy. He taught his son many of these skills. He was always a gentle giant to his daughter, having patience, always letting his children know they were loved, despite distance. He loved his dogs that went before him and one sweet kitty, Raven. He leaves behind Pickles and Enzo to look for him in his favorite chair.

One of Jim’s greatest gifts was his sense of humor and wit. He loved to laugh and tell a joke, it didn’t matter the situation, he had a repertoire at the ready.

Our hearts break in his absence. We all loved him dearly.

– A celebration of life will take place in October in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
