John Frank Melfy, Jr., 73, of Chandler Heights, AZ, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home on January 4, 2018 after a 9 year struggle with illness.
John was a terrific husband, brother, father and grandfather. A student at of the University of Maine, the New England Conservatory of Music and a graduate of Arizona State University, John served as a Navy Medic with the third Marine division in Vietnam. A pillar of the community since 1969, he and his wife, lovingly referred to as “Edith”, just celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary.
John was a friend to everyone. He was a talented musician and a skilled craftsman in the art of cabinetry. His incredible wit and sense of humor was only matched by his tireless work ethic and efforts for helping his neighbor. He was exceedingly generous with both his talents and resources.
John is survived by his wife, Kathy Melfy; daughters, Berrigan (Melfy) Staub, Katie Melfy and Julie (Melfy) Hansen; brother, Bob Melfy; sister, Linda Maninno; nieces (whom he considered daughters), Kelly Reed, Tricia Melfy and Gina Fetterolf; nephews, Salvatore Mannino and Timothy and Jeffrey Houde; and grandchildren, Holden, William, Broughan Joy, John David, Maren and Grace.
A mass will be held on Tuesday, January 9th, 2018 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, in Queen Creek, AZ at 2PM followed by a reception at the Melfy Residence. In the spirit of John, all are welcome.
