H. Ming Liaw passed peacefully from this life on August 10, 2025, at the age of 89 in his home in Queen Creek, AZ. Ming was a proud husband, father, friend and grandfather who came to the U.S. to create a new life for his wife and family.
Ming was raised in Taichung, Taiwan, one of 5 children from a modest background. He came to the U.S. for graduate studies in 1965. A chemical engineer, he earned his PhD at Penn State University and went on to build a successful and enduring career in the technology industry. Throughout his career, he was an active innovator, and held multiple patents related to process control of semiconductor device manufacturing for microelectronic applications. He valued education, inventiveness, problem solving, and a strong work ethic, and instilled these values in his children and those around him.
Ming is survived by his wife of 62 years, Chau, his daughters Tsui, Lucy, and Sally, and their families. He also has extended family who reside in Taiwan.
The family will have a private celebration of his life, legacy, and the path forward he forged in America.
With deepest sympathy to Chau and family! Ming had a smile that would light up the room! I admired his modesty and was amazed at his work accomplishments. He once explained , in layman’s terms for me, what he did at work and just told me “we make things smaller and smaller”! Rest in peace, dear Ming!
